TPI forced to reduce production levels

Blade company TPI Composites has reduced its manufacturing operations in India, Turkey, and Mexico because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

TPI's operations in Turkey, India, and Mexico have been reduced due to the ongoing global pandemic

The US-based company said it would operate its manufacturing facility in Chennai, India, with a skeleton staff until at least 15 April 2020.

It will temporarily slash activity at its Matamoros, Mexico, facility from 3 April 2020 until 30 April 2020.

TPI also said it will operate its Izmir, Turkey manufacturing facilities at approximately 50% capacity during the first half of April.

It said the decision to reduce the output at these plants was partly the result of pressure by workers unions.

"These temporary reductions and suspensions of production may last longer than TPI currently anticipates if the government-mandated stay at home orders are extended," the company said.

Its other manufacturing sites are still operating at normal levels, including its manufacturing facilities in China.
