Construction of the 1,026MW MacIntyre project is due to start in mid-2021, with a phased commissioning schedule ramping up to the complex being fully online in 2024.
Nordex will supply 180 Delta4000 turbines with power ratings of up to 5.7MW for the project.
Acciona will own a 926MW portion of the site, while CleanCo will be responsible for the remaining 100MW.
The Spanish developer will also supply CleanCo with output from a 400MW portion of the project through a ten-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
It is negotiating additional supply agreements with private clients and also looking for other partners for the remainder of its 926MW holding.
MacIntyre will require total investments of about A$1.96 billion ($1 billion) over three years, Acciona stated, with the largest outlays coming in 2022 and 2023.
Despite its size, MacIntyre is not due to be the largest wind farm in Australia, or even in Queensland.
Siemens Financial Services and CleanSight are developing the 1.2GW Forest Wind project in Queensland.
Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners’ 2GW Star of the South project off the Victorian coast is due to be Australia’s first offshore wind farm.
Meanwhile, CWP is leading development of an 11GW renewable energy hub featuring 4GW of wind power.
