It will supply 66 V155-3.3MW turbines for two undisclosed projects in China with a combined capacity of 201MW and expected online next year.
The turbine, which was introduced to the Chinese market in June 2019, has the largest rotor (155 metres) and lowest power rating (3.3MW) of Vestas鈥 4MW platform, the manufacturer said.
This gives it a specific power rating of 175W/m2, and will help it 鈥渙ptimise a project鈥檚 capacity factor in low wind speeds鈥, Vestas claimed.
China has 鈥渁 growing number of low and ultra-low wind sites鈥.
Vestas also said the turbine鈥檚 lower rotor speed would produce low sound power levels.
The V155-3.3MW is currently only available in China, a Vestas spokesman told聽搖錢樹娛樂城.
It leverages existing technology from the manufacturer's 4MW platform and a prototype is currently being manufactured.
Thomas Keller, president of Vestas China, said the turbine was an 鈥渙ptimal fit鈥 for China鈥檚 low wind market, especially as the country 鈥渢ransitions to distributed wind and grid-parity projects, causing a more competitive and complex business environment鈥.
Vestas will manufacture the turbine's nacelle at its factory in Tianjin, eastern China. An undisclosed local partner will produce the 76-metre blades at its factory also in Tianjin, the manufacturer added.
It expects to deliver the turbines and commission the projects, which were both successful in China鈥檚 ongoing auction scheme, in Q3 2020. The manufacturer will also service the turbines for five years.
