EDF buys into 1GW Irish offshore project

EDF Group has bought a 50% stake in the Codling offshore wind farm, clearing the way for its clean energy subsidiary to develop the 1GW Irish project with Fred Olsen Renewables.

To date, Ireland has just one 25.2MW offshore wind farm - SSE's Arklow Bank (above)

It bought the stake in the site planned off the southeast coast of Ireland from investment firm Hazel Shore, which has now divested from the project.

Codling will be built in two phases, with planning permission and grid connection already secured for the first phase.

EDF Renewables will develop and build the project alongside Fred Olsen Renewables, which owns the other 50% stake in 1300MW Codling Wind Park .

An EDF Renewables spokeswoman told 搖錢樹娛樂城 鈥渋t is too early to say鈥 how Codling鈥檚 1GW of total capacity might be split between its two phases.

She added that the developer plans to start construction on the first phase 鈥渁s soon as possible鈥.

EDF Renewables has a 6GW-plus portfolio of operational, under-construction and under-development offshore wind farms in the UK, France, Belgium, Germany, the United States, and China.

Its latest acquisition follows the Irish government setting a target for commissioning at least 3.5GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030 and approving a new renewables auction scheme open to offshore wind, EDF noted.
