Taiwanese nacelle assembly lease signed by SGRE

Siemens Gamesa signed a contract with state-owned shipping company and port operator Taiwan International Ports for an offshore nacelle assembly facility in the south-east Asian country -- its first outside of Europe.

Construction of the 30,000km2-plus site in the port of Taichung on Taiwan’s west coast, is due to begin in 2020, with production starting the following year.

The site will consist of nacelle assembly, testing and warehousing sites, as well as office buildings and outdoor storage.

It will initially support Ørsted’s 900MW Greater Changhua 1 & 2a project, which , and then later supply nacelles to other regional projects, Siemens Gamesa said.

The manufacturer has signed contracts for nearly 2GW of offshore wind capacity in Asia-Pacific, including 1.5GW of confirmed orders.
