Giant Romanian project up for sale

The owner of one of Europe's largest operational onshore wind farms has listed a 600MW project for sale as it follows through on a new business strategy.

Czech utility CEZ Group is considering selling seven of its companies in Romania, including the owner of the 600MW Fantanele-Cogealac wind farm.

Its Romanian assets for sale also include one of the country’s energy distribution networks, an electricity and gas supply business, and 22MW of hydropower projects.

The utility invited potential investors to confirm their interest in writing before making non-binding offers.

CEZ Group approved a new strategy in June to gradually sell its assets in Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey, as well as some of its holdings in Poland.

However, the utility would retain its companies focused on "modern energy services" — a sector that it wants to develop further both in the Czech Republic and abroad, it added.

Fantanele-Cogealac comprises 240 2.5MW GE Renewable Energy turbines and was commissioned in 2012.

Aside from Fantanele-Cogealac, CEZ Group also owns a 35MW onshore wind site in Germany and a 4.1MW project in Austria, according to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Intelligence, the research and data division of “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç.
