Goldwind will supply turbines from its GW4S platform, unveiled in November 2017, with scalable rated capacity of 4.2-4.5MW and 136-155-metre rotor diameters to Potentia Renewables’ Golden South wind farm.
The Toronto-based developer won acontract to sell output from 200MW of Golden South in the central Canadian province’s tender in October 2018.
Golden South is expected online by the end of 2020.
Potentia Renewables has a contract to sell power from Golden South to utility SaskPower for 25 years.
The utility received 29 bids for projects with an average price of C$42/MWh (US$31.60/MWh).
It did not disclose the value of the winning bid, but stated that Potentia’s offer was "well below" the average price.
Announcing the turbine purchase agreement, Potentia CEO Jeff Jenner described Golden South as having "the lowest cost renewable energy in Canada for 25 years".
"The direct-drive 4MW turbines combined with the strong Saskatchewan winds and our simple interconnection enables Potentia to set a world record low price for long-term wind energy contracts," he added.
Goldwind will also provide long-term maintenance services for the site.
