According to data released by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), as much as 22% of the Lone Star state's electricity was derived from wind this year from January through June.
In the first half of the year, a total of 38.7TWh came from wind and 38TWh from coal. Still, combined cycle gas plants produced 68.3TWh.
In the windiest month, April, almost 27% of the state’s electricity was wind-generated compared with 19% from coal.
Texas is home to more wind capacity than any other US state, with almost 25GW of wind capacity installed.
It also has an onshore pipeline totalling 11.3GW of onshore wind, the largest of any US state, according to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Intelligence, the research and data division of “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç.
