The new survey from shows the mood in all areas of the globe is growing more positive about the wind industry, except for Germany where it is worsening.
The biannual review of the industry was carried out by 1,254 participants from across the value chain and in a range of markets.
In a question assessing the current development of the framework conditions for onshore wind — covering legal, political and social aspects — respondents were generally more positive in all regions, apart from Germany.
Germany's wind industry is becoming increasingly unsettled by the country's permitting system, and the difficulty in securing land. There are also concerns about the transmission system being able to hand the increasing amounts of variable renewable generation being added to the grid.
The growth in optimism in other parts of the world was seen when asked about the offshore wind sector with a marked increase in mood in Asia, North America, and the Rest of the World (Central and South America, Africa, the Middle East and Australasia).
In Germany however, while the outlook remained positive, it was much lower than a year ago.
The respondents also believed the current level of market consolidation is expected to continue at the current pace.
In offshore, there was a significant increase in the belief that digitalisation — in the shape of automation, sector coupling and smart grids — holds the key to further optimisation in the industry.
