RES, Boralex and AXPO Volkswind were the major winners by capacity. AXPO secured 68.8MW across three sites, with Boralex just behind securing 68.2MW, also across three sites.
RES, meanwhile, won 57.3MW of capacity across two sites. A total of 16 companies won 20-year contracts in the tender, with the average project size of 24.6MW.
Total-Quadran won with the biggest single project of 47.6MW. According to the tender rules, all projects need to be online before September 2021.
The average price across the third tender round is down roughly 6% on the first two rounds.
The Nord-Pas-de-Calais Picardie region of northern France will see the most new capacity added, with six projects adding up to 215.4MW selected, according to Envinergy, a French M&A advisor.
"The development of onshore wind energy is a pillar of France's energy and climate strategy and a key lever for decarbonising energy production and achieving the goal of zero net greenhouse gas emissions by 2050," said French minister for ecological transition, François de Rugy.
Submissions for France’s fourth auction round for a further 500MW are due on 1 August.
