Vestas' 4MW platform leads order surge

Vestas secured turbine purchase deals for just over 2GW during May, taking orders for around 640 turbines in markets that include the US, Brazil, Australia, China and Finland.

Vestas took orders for 168 V136-4.2MW turbines in Wyoming alone during May

The 4MW platform provided the bulk of the month's business identified by “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Intelligence, the data and research division of “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç.

PacifiCorps specified the V136-4.2MW variant with 4.3MW power mode option for 687MW spread over two projects in Wyoming, a relatively untapped state in terms of wind development with only 1,489MW currently operating.

The TB Flats (459MW) and Ekola Flats (228MW) wind farms are expected online in late 2020. Vestas also has 12-year service agreements in place for both projects.

The longer-bladed V150-4.2MW model took over 160MW in orders from Finland during May, plus a further 244MW for two projects in Brazil.

The short-bladed V117-4.2MW model has been selected for Ratch-Australia Corporation's 227MW project in New South Wales.

In total, the 4MW platform accounted for 1,319MW of the 2,032MW turbine purchase agreements that WPI has confirmed for Vestas in May.

The remainder was taken up by the V120-2.2MW model, with 669MW in the US, and 44MW for an undisclosed project in China.
