Ukrainian company DTEK stated that 21 of the 26 GE turbines planned for the 100MW first phase of the Primorskaya wind farm in the south-east of the country have been installed.
Seven of the GE 130-3.8MW turbines are now in commercial operator, the developer stated.
Meanwhile, civil construction works are underway for the second 100MW stage, DTEK added.
It will consist of 26 GE 137-3.8MW turbines. Due to the bigger rotor diameter of the turbines used, the developer expects the second phase will produce more electricity than the first, a DTEK spokeswoman said.
The project is due to be fully operational by October 2019.
Both stages of the Primorskaya WEP will be connected to the local distribution grid of utility Zaporizhzhyaoblenergo. Together, they will produce between 650GWh and 700GWh annually, DTEK added.
The project had been first been proposed in 2011, with the start of operations planned for 2013 or 2014.
However, political upheaval in Ukraine in which president Viktor Yanukovich was ousted following anti-government protests, and the ensuing economic crisis, led to the suspension of the project, DTEK stated.
The developer renewed its plans for the 200MW Primorskaya wind farm were renewed in 2016, and construction started last March.
When complete, its capacity will equal that of Ukraine's largest wind farm, DTEK's 200MW Botievo site.
However, Primirskaya and Botievo are due to be overtaken by NBT and Total Eren's 250MW Syvash wind farm.
