Inox’s current product portfolio comprises three 2MW models with rotor diameters of 93-113 metres, also provided under licence from AMSC.
The manufacturer said the new design would help in India's increasingly competitive market, following the introduction of capacity procurement auctions.
The new 3MW turbine offered by Inox would have a larger rotor diameter, expected to be roughly 140-metres, and a higher hub height than its 2MW products, the company said.
In August, Inox reported a return to profit after facing difficulties in the transition to a competitive environment.
The manufacturer’s first-quarter earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) of INR 700 million ($10.2 million) marked a dramatic increase from a loss of INR 130 million in the corresponding in 2017.
At the end of the second quarter, once again profitable, Inox said it had won 500MW of capacity, procured under the federal auctions, ready to go with grid connections.
It also said it was in advanced discussions for an additional 600MW.
