"After a few years of stagnation, there is well-grounded optimism for the dynamic development of onshore and offshore RES," the Polish Wind Energy Association and law firm K&L Gates wrote in a guide to the auction.
Another onshore wind auction is expected to take place next year while Poland’s government is also preparing legislation to pave the way for the first offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea.
According to tender terms, the maximum price that can be submitted in a bid is PLZ 350/MWh (€81/MWh) for a 15-year contract. That price is subject to indexation.
The Polish transmission system operator estimates approximately 3GW of onshore wind projects are eligible to participate in the tender.
Poland added just 41MW in new wind capacity in 2017, bringing the total to 5.85GW. Potentially less than that total will be added in 2018.
The sector stalled after restrictive policies were unveiled in 2016.
The government has now backtracked amid signs the country will likely fall short of its 2020 target to source 15% of its energy from renewables.
