It issued a request for ideas (RFI) inviting input from offshore wind developers and suppliers, industrial real estate developers, port operators and authorities, and local governments.
The EDA asks for feedback on existing port infrastructure as well as potential new infrastructure, and the potential role of the Authority and the state government in developing the offshore wind industry and its supply chain.
New Jersey aims to have , and in September, governor Phil Murphy announced it would for the first 1.1GW of this target.
Murphy is also asking the state’s Board of Public Utilities (BPU) to issue two additional 1.2GW solicitations in 2020 and 2022 to reach the 3.5GW goal.
New Jersey already has several projects in various stages of development.
The BPU accepted EDF Renewables and Fishermen’s Energy’s in September, and in July Ørsted for its planned 1GW Ocean Wind project.
Both planned projects are situated off the coast of New Jersey, United States.
Complete responses to the EDA‘s RFI are due by 15 October.
