The Danish onshore wind turbine manufacturer will move its blade, bearing and material testing from its West Medina Mills site to the nearby St Cross facility, with relocation work beginning this week.
MHI Vestas, meanwhile, is considering how it can "take full advantage of the West Medina Mills facility for offshore blade production", its director of blade production, James Luter, said.
Vestas currently employs 130 people on the Isle of Wight, an island situated off the south coast of England. Some staff will remain at the West Medina Mill site, the company added.
MHI Vestas the blade manufacturing facility on the Isle of Wight shortly after the JV was formed in 2014. Vestas had previously used the site, but the offshore JV expanded it to accommodate the 80-metre blades of its V164 offshore wind turbine.
In an interview with “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç in September 2018, MHI Vestas CEO Philippe Kavafyan said the UK was the "backbone" of the company’s development. He added the JV wanted to grow its pre-assembly sites in the UK.
