Siemens Gamesa receives first US offshore order

UNITED STATES: Siemens Gamesa will supply two 6MW turbines for the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) demonstration project.

It will provide two units of its SWT-6.0-154 model for the 12MW CVOW project, which will the first offshore wind farm in the Mid-Atlantic.

Danish developer Ørsted and Virginian utility Dominion Energy are , which will be located 43km from Virginia Beach, with a targeted completion date of 2020.

Siemens Gamesa will produce the blades for the project at its manufacturing facility in Aalborg, Denmark, and the nacelles at its plant in Cuxhaven, Germany, it stated.

The turbines are expected to be delivered to the US in mid-2020 and installed by Ørsted on monopiles.

Filing

The turbine purchase agreement (TPA) follows Dominion’s application with utility regulator State Corporation Commission (SCC) to proceed with the project in early August.

Dominion launched a grid modernisation programme in July to integrate 3GW of new renewable projects in Virginia, with wind accounting for up to 2GW of this total capacity.
