The certification body will showcase a report by the Facilitating Offshore Wind in India (FOWIND) project, which demonstrates the feasibility and commercial viability of offshore wind in the country, it claims.
In the report, DNV GL provides a concept design for a 150-504MW demonstration project "in both Gujarat and Tamil Nadu’s most promising offshore wind development areas".
It is unclear whether this is one project to be built off either coast or two projects being built, one on each coast.
The Fowind consortium had previously highlighted potential sites for offshore wind farms off the coasts of Tamil Nadu in the south and Gujarat in the north-west of the country, with the .
India has more than 33GW of installed wind capacity, according to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Intelligence, the research and data division of “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç, but all of this is onshore.
Ditlev Engel, CEO of DNV GL’s energy division, said: "At the start of the project nearly four years ago, offshore wind in India was no more than a distant vision.
"Today however, India has a specific onshore wind policy, a government actively gearing up for offshore and local and overseas stakeholders proactively considering this new endeavour.
"These are significant steps to a greener energy future for India."
In April, India’s National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE) in building a 1GW project off the coast of Gujarat.
