Western Spirit, a 345kV AC transmission line, will carry power from the Mesa Canyons project in Lincoln County to the western side of Albuquerque, where it will interconnect with utility Public Service Company (PSC) of New Mexico’s grid.
Pattern Development is now the sole owner of Mesa Canyons and Western Spirit, but will work with the New Mexico Renewable Energy Transmission Authority (RETA) to co-develop the transmission line.
RETA had worked with the transmission line’s previous owner Clean Line Energy Partners to bring the project to an advanced stage of development.
Both of Pattern’s new projects are in advanced stages of development and are expected to begin construction next year with a targeted commissioning date of 2020, the company stated.
Pattern Development had previously worked on the 324MW Broadview wind farm and 345kV Western Interconnect AC transmission line in New Mexico, both of which were brought into operation last year.
It will also start construction of the 221MW Grady project, which is also in New Mexico, in the summer, before commissioning the wind farm next spring, it stated.
Garland had said the company was in an "excellent position" to make further acquisitions after Pattern Development’s parent company Pattern Energy released its first-quarter results earlier this month.
The developer has not made a decision on what turbines or how many turbines will be used at Mesa Canyons.
