About half of the 8,400m2 facility is devoted to two test benches, which are also capable of validating solar PV and energy storage systems.
The other half of the €3 million-plus centre is devoted to producing power electronics for Siemens Gamesa’s wind power, solar PV and energy storage segments, the manufacturer stated.
The 10MW test capability of the manufacturer’s centre in San Fernando de Henares marks a five-fold increase on the 2MW capacity of its former facility in nearby Coslada, which has now closed down.
Enrique Pedrosa, CEO of the manufacturer’s onshore division in southern Europe and Africa, added: "From now on, it will be possible to do many of the tests that were being performed elsewhere in Spain here at the factory.
"This will translate into a significant improvement in development times and, thus, in competitiveness."
In total, 183 people are currently working at the new centre — up 20% from one year ago, Siemens Gamesa stated.
