Anderson has been an outspoken proponent of renewables, particularly wind-power, in the UK for a number of years. He held the role of CEO since 1998.
In 2010, Anderson oversaw the launch of SPR's offshore wind division, which owns a stake in the 389MW West of Duddon Sands project in the Irish Sea.
SPR is also developing the 2,714MW East Anglia cluster of projects, the first of which is due online in 2020.
The developer also owns roughly 2GW of operational onshore wind capacity.
In his new role at CEO of ScottishPower — a subsidiary of Spanish power giant Iberdrola — Anderson will be responsible for all of the firm's businesses.
Anderson's replacement, Lindsay McQuade, was previously director of policy and innovation at SPR.
"ScottishPower Renewables has led the way in the UK over the last 20 years in driving forward the growth of wind power
"We face the challenges of renewing and extending the life of existing projects, at the same time as finding ways to deliver new megawatts of green electricity," McQuade said following her appointment.
