EDP Renewables’ (EDPR) 200MW Prairie Queen site and NextEra Energy’s 244MW Pratt Wind Energy Centre will supply the power.
Pratt is situated in Pratt County in the south of the state and is due to be completed by the end of the year, while Prairie Queen is located in Allen County in the south-east of the state and is expected to complete construction by the end of May 2019.
Turbines have not yet been announced for either project.
João Manso Neto, CEO of EDPR, said he expected power purchase agreements (PPAs), which are commonplace in the US, to "also form part of the future energy landscape in Europe".
Industry lobbying group WindEurope has repeatedly called for greater clarity in legal frameworks regarding corporate renewable PPAs and barriers in Europe.
EDPR CEO Neto said: "We expect to see increasingly more agreements of this kind to benefit both energy producers and consumers."
Great Plains Energy’s new PPAs will take its total wind power capacity to more than 1.8GW — approximately 25% of its generating portfolio, the utility stated.
In November, it announced the completion of the 300MW Rock Creek wind farm, from which it buys all of the power, in Atchison County in the north-east of Missouri.
