Ferme Eolienne Flottante de Groix & Belle-Île (FEFGBI) and Réseau de Transport d’Electricité (RTE) filed the applications to the local land and sea use authority in Morbihan in the north west of the country, and to the regional authority for the environment and housing (DREAL Bretagne) covering Brittany.
The two companies now await approval of their local and regional permits. Decisions are expected in the first quarter of 2019.
Ademe selected FEFGBI’s plan for four GE Haliade 6MW turbines on semi-submersible floating platforms in a tender for the last July.
The four turbines would be placed 13km from the island of Groix, nearly 20km from Belle-Île-en-Mer to the south, and between 25km and 30km from the mainland, the companies stated.
The 17km2 area has been approved by the Brittany Regional Sea and Coastal Conference, and the DCNS' floating design has been by certification agency Bureau Veritas.
The project was awarded an by the French government last September.
RTE would be responsible for connecting the project, via an undersea and underground cable, to the French grid.
Public surveys in nearby coastal towns must be carried out by both firms by next summer, they added.
The project is scheduled to be commissioned in the summer of 2021.
