Loan approved for Sri Lanka's largest project

SRI LANKA: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $200 million loan for Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to develop the country's first 100MW wind farm.

The CEB will provide an additional $56.7 million for the site, which would be Sri Lanka’s largest.

It is due online by the end of 2021, the ADB stated.

The ADB loan will cover costs of the project, to be built on Mannar Island in Northern Province, as well as associated infrastructure, including internal cabling and access roads, it said.

No further details about developers or number of model of turbines have yet been specified.

But a 100MW project would be the country’s largest wind farm by far, according to , the research and data division of “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç.

Sri Lanka’s have a total capacity of 80MW, while a 21MW site, , is planed for North Western Province.
