The Bergama factory is LM’s first new blade manufacturing site since it was taken over by GE Renewable Energy earlier this year.
According to LM, the new plant represents a $50 million investment in Turkey’s wind power industry and will create up to 450 skilled technical jobs.
At the opening on 11 July, 287 people were employed, 24% of which were female.
The plant will be capable of building blades of up to 80 metres in length and will supply an annual capacity of 500MW initially, although it has the capability to expand to 1.5GW a year.
GE Renewable Energy CEO Jerome Pecresse described Turkey as a "highly promising market" for wind power. The company already operates eight facilities with more than 2,000 employees in the country.
"Last year the Turkish wind sector reached a cornerstone by having more than 6GW of wind power installed," he said.
"GE is committed to investing long-term in the communities where we operate, and this facility is an important milestone in our commitment to work with local talent."
