In mid-March, the utility announced plans to invest $2.5 billion in four states — Minnesota, North and South Dakota, and Iowa – supporting seven new wind projects through construction or power purchase agreements.
The sites supported by the PUC in Minnesota includes the 100MW Lake Benton wind farm, the 400MW Blazing Star complex and the 200MW Freeborn project, which straddles the state line with Iowa.
According to Xcel, the projects are due to be online by the end of 2020 and will received the full production tax credit support.
The North Dakota Public Services Commission is due to review the plans later this year, Xcel said.
The utility is targeting 35% of its energy mix to be provided by wind power.
