AWEA 2017: DNV GL launches forecasting platform

UNITED STATES: Advisory firm DNV GL has launched an on-demand weather forecaster in the US and Canada, ahead of the AWEA “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç 2017 conference in California (23-25 May 2017).

The Forecaster Now program will cover the US and Canada initially

The Forecaster Now is a web-based program providing short-term forecasting to energy traders and project operators.

"Forecaster Now aims to provide energy traders, plant operators and other stakeholders with immediate estimates of future wind and solar plant energy production," DNV GL said.

"These instant forecasts help energy traders validate trading instincts, and inform O&M managers, which assists them with maintenance scheduling as well as offering a critical 'second opinion' energy forecast," the firm added.

The program will be available in the US and Canada initially, with roll out across Europe and the rest of the world due to follow.

DNV GL said the program could also give information on how wind and solar generation would affect supply and pricing in the ERCOT market in the US.

"While some stakeholders may require a more in-depth forecast, others may have a need for only a snapshot of the forecast and Forecaster Now provides this on-demand flexibility," said DNV GL Energy Advisory Americas president Carole Barbeau.
