In its new , Navigant rated 12 leadings OEMs on 12 criteria: vision; go-to-market strategy; partners; production strategy; technology; geographic reach; sales & marketing; global market share, 2015 capacity; product quality & reliability; product portfolio; cumulative installations; and staying power.
Under the alternative methodology, Navigant said Vestas, GE, Siemens and Gamesa were the leading turbines manufacturers with the Chinese manufacturers missing out due to their "limited success" away from their domestic market.
Other market analysts had put Goldwind as the leading manufacturer in 2015 by installations with a 12.5% market share – mostly in China.
"Wind turbine manufacturers are primarily ranked in terms of total megawatts installed in a given year, but a more interesting story looks at differences in strategy and execution, product offerings, geographic diversification, and a mix of qualitative factors at play in this competitive and dynamic marketplace," said Navigant senior research analyst Jesse Broehl.
"Today's top-tier vendors are excelling by showing brisk activity throughout many global markets and have an exceptional command of manufacturing, supply chain, and business relationships," Broehl added.
