The partnership brings together RES's expertise and experience in offshore development in Europe and the US with Dohwa's local knowledge and contacts. The agreement covers the whole of South Korea.
"RES sees the Far East region as the fastest-growing new sector in offshore wind," said Kevin Todd, the company's offshore business development manager for Asia.
"Finding local partners is important to facilitate our expansion in the region. Dohwa is a large, successful business, also wishing to move into offshore wind," he said.
According to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Intelligence, the research and data division of “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç, South Korea has only 5MW of installed offshore wind from two single-turbine pilot projects.
There are at least nine commercial projects under development, adding up to 950MW.
Only one, the 30MW Tamra project in the Korea Strait, is known to have started construction.
