Tata acquires 150MW of wind from Welspun

INDIA: Tata Power Renewable Energy (TPRE) has signed an agreement to aquire the renewable energy division of Indian conglomerate Welspun Group.

As part of the deal, Tata has acquired Welspun Renewable Energy and its 1.14GW renewable power portfolio, comprising mostly solar projects but also including 150MW of wind capacity.

TPRE said it was also carving out some renewable assets from its parent company Tata Power, which operates 621MW of wind capacity in India.

Following the acquisition of Welspun and the additional capacity from Tata Power, TPRE's operating and pipeline renewable assets will amount to more than 2.3GW.

Tata said this would make it India's largest renewable power company. Currently, TPRE operates 240MW of wind capacity across four Indian states. It has a further 400MW of renewable projects under construction.
