Although Argentina is unlikely to meet the target set by the law of deriving 8% of its electricity from renewable sources by next year, the minister said that he expected 10GW of renewable capacity to be installed by 2025.
This includes 3GW in the next two to three years, requiring investments worth $5 billion, Aranguren said on a visit to Washington DC last week.
Argentina has some of the world's best conditions for wind power generation, from the flat, open Pampas south of Buenos Aires to the windswept wilds of Patagonia.
Developers have filed plans to install 5GMW of wind farms, some with capacity factor as high as 45%.
