According to the Russian wind energy association (RAWI), the country's largest power companies have started to purchase licenses for turbine manufacture, preparing for the production of components in accordance with the recently approved state "plan of localisation of production of wind power in the Russian Federation for 2016-2019".
The plan was designed to attract Russian industrial enterprises to the production of wind power components in the country.
As a result, eight Russian industrial enterprises have announced their intention to start production of towers for wind turbines, with three companies planning to focus on the production of generators, and another four being ready to establish blade facilities in the coming months.
RAWI was unable to name the companies that bought the licenses.
It is planned that production will be started this year. All the companies purchasing the licenses intend to build their own wind farms.
This is expected to contribute to the further expansion of the market after the launch of the first wind farms in Russia in 2017.
Igor Bryzgunov, head of the Russian Association of Wind Power, said: "In accordance with the anti-crisis plan, which was approved on July 2015, the Russian government has significantly improved the conditions of state support of the domestic wind energy."
