OX2, which bought the project in 2015, and last week sold it to furniture retailer Ikea, is preparing to repower the 30MW project, increasing output to 42.4MW.
The Ajos project, formally known as Kemi, was completed in 2008, according to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Intelligence, the research and data division of “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç.
It currently comprises ten WinWind WWD-3-100 3MW turbines, eight of which are located on artificial islands and two on the mainland. The size of the artificial islands is about 30m x 50m, and the depth of the water around the islands is between 3m and 8m.
The eight turbines in the harbour will be replaced with Siemens' SWT-3.3-130 wind turbine, and the two onshore turbines will be replaced with five Siemens SWT-3.2-113 turbines.
The three additional turbines will be built on new sites during the late summer of 2016, with the remaining ten turbines in the summer of 2017.
The project will also have its sea cable replaced with a new, larger substation.
The project was bought by furniture retailer Ikea this week, allowing OX2 to commence building activities. OX2 will operate the project on behalf of Ikea when the repowering is complete.
