Vestas Americas has been awarded a 15-year service contract by NRG Yield, for four of the Alta projects in Tehachape, in the Mojave desert, California.
The 570MW of projects comprise 50 V90 3MW turbines in operation since 2010, at the Alta II project, plus 140 of the same model, across Alta III, IV and V projects, which have been operating since 2011.
The contract is a continuation of Vestas' operations and maintenance (O&M) of the projects, and includes the Vestas Active Output Management 5000 service, which offers energy-based guarantees of up to 97%.
Last year, Vestas’ O&M contract wins in the US included a ten year service agreement for 429MW of V80 1.8MW and 2MW turbines, at the Whiskey Ridge, Wild Horse, and Hopkins Ridge projects in Washington, US, for Puget Sound Energy.
It was also awarded the contract to operate the 102MW Coram project, again in Tehachapi, California, when RET took over 100% ownership of the project, buying out the 50% share of Coram California Development Management through its BAIF US Renewable Power Holdings division.
Vestas, like many turbine manufacturers, has been focusing in recent years on increasing its operations and maintenance as a source of revenue.
