China capacity grows to 145GW in 2015

CHINA: According to preliminary statistics compiled by the Chinese Wind Energy Association (CWEA), the country installed 30.5GW of new wind turbines in 2015.

Goldwind was the top manufacturer in China in 2015

The robust growth is partly impacted by a government policy issued in 2014, which cut the onshore wind feed-in tariff by CNY 0.02/kWh ($0.003/kWh).

The rates are applied to wind projects approved after 1 January 2015 and those approved earlier but commissioned from the start of 2016.

Projects in the second group have been pushed through to completion to qualify for the rates because at the end of 2015, China announced a new plan of reducing the onshore wind FIT rates in 2016 and 2018 for a second time since the introduction in 2009.

This will sustain the pressure on wind developers to complete project construction without delay, an industry observer said.

CWEA statistics also show Goldwind continued to top the list of manufacturers on the domestic market. The firm installed more than 7GW of wind turbines last year.
