Moventas adds Siemens 2.3MW to uptower repair offering

UNITED STATES: Gearbox specialist Moventas is able to offer uptower planetary repairs on Siemens 2.3MW turbines, increasing its maintenance offering in North America.

Moventas has expanded its uptower repair capabilities

Moventas is now able to repair failed low-speed planetary stage gears in the nacelle, avoiding the need to remove a gearbox from the turbine.

Uptower repair of this component can significantly reduce the cost of repair through removal, and by updating it with modern ring wheels and integrated planet wheel bearings, it can also extend the life of the gearbox, the company said.

In September, the Finnish firm launched its uptower repair capability for the GE 1.5MW turbine.

There is an estimated 5GW plus of Siemens wind turbines installed in the US across all its platforms.

"Service is a big part of our business for a few years now. We've been investing in it over the last four or five years, setting up a presence in all of the main wind countries. And absolutely we will be continuing that heavily," Moventas senior vice president for wind gears Arto Lahtela told “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç in 2014.
