Siemens turbines find favour in Italy

ITALY: In the past year Siemens has taken orders for 130MW of installed capacity spread across three projects in southern Italy.

Siemens has taken orders for 42 of its 3MW direct-drive turbines from Italy this year

The direct-drive SWT-3.0-113 model has been specified for the 60MW Melfi and the 54MW Tricarico projects in the Basilicata region in the south of the country. Installation work at both sites will start in the first half of 2016.

The SWT-3.2-113 will be used at the 16GW Cerreto project, also in the Basilicata region, which is scheduled to go online in a few weeks.

"The order awarding process in place since 2012 has resulted in greater cost transparency for onshore wind projects in Italy," said Thomas Richterich, CEO of Onshore in Siemens Wind Power and Renewables Division.

"We are pleased we can highlight the efficiency of our direct-drive D3 wind turbines here."
