Keystone to supply Maryland met mast

UNITED STATES: Engineering firm Keystone has been contracted by US Wind to provide its "braced-caisson" design foundation to support a met mast at the Maryland offshore site.

The met mast will be installed 24km off the Maryland coast, northeast US. The project is set have an approximate capacity of 500MW, said Keystone.

It wiil be the first item to be installed at the Maryland site and will gather wind speeds and direction in order to optimise the site. 

US Wind made an $8.7 million bid for the rights to develop two parcels off the coast of Maryland in the US's third offshore wind competitive lease auction in August 2014. It emerged as the at Maryland. The company is a subsidiary of Italian renewable energy firm Renexia.

The Maryland offshore wind area covers nearly 323 square kilometres. Keystone also helped design the foundations for the five-turbine 30MW Block Island project, under construction off the coast of Rhode Island state.
