Dong confirms West of Duddon Sands transmission sale

UK: Dong Energy and ScottishPower Renewables have agreed the sale of the transmission assets for their 389MW West of Duddon Sands offshore project.

The transmission assets for West of Duddon Sands have been sold to Macquarie and 3i

Dong and ScottishPower Renewables jointly developed West of Duddon Sands, which was in October. The project uses 108 Siemens 3.6MW turbines

The developers have agreed a deal with a consortium comprising investment groups Macquarie Corporate Holdings and 3i infrastructure. Dong said the value of the assets, including onshore and offshore substations and export cables, totals £269 million (€376 million).

The consortium was selected by UK energy regulator Ofgem following a tender in July 2014.

As part of the UK's offshore transmission owner (OFTO) regime, the assets related to a project's grid link must be sold to a third party.

The owner of the transmission link is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the link between a wind project and the national grid.
