EnBW signs 148.5MW Vestas supply agreement

GERMANY: Developer EnBW has awarded Vestas a 148.5MW turbine order to supply a number of projects in Germany.

Vestas will supply 45 V126-3.3MW turbines to the projects in 2016-2017.

The turbines will supply projects in the states of Baden-Wurttemberg, Rheineland-Palatinate and Brandenburg, said EnBW.

The developer has ordered 45 of the long-bladed V126-3.3MW models, which are expected to be supplied to the projects in 2016-2017.

The state owned utility has been able to make such a larger order because it has increased it portfolio in recent years. Usually, the company selects a turbine on a project-by-project basis.

EnBW head of generation portfolio developer Dirk Gusewell said: "We used to select the turbines for each wind farm by a separate invitation to tender. The ramp-up our project portfolio now allows us an invitation to tender in an industrial scale."

In 2013, EnBW unveiled a "2020 strategy" to invest €3.5 billion in renewable energy and expand the portfolio to 40% of its business, up from 12%.

Gusewell said the deal with Vestas was a milestone in achieveing the goals set in this strategy.
