Goldwind wins 32MW deal in South Africa

SOUTH AFRICA: Goldwind has secured an order for a 32MW project in South Africa from BioTherm Energy.

The project will use Goldwind 2.5MW turbines

The contract is for 13 2.5MW (109/2500) medium-wind turbines to go to the Excelsior wind project in the Eastern Cape province.

According to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç's annual market status report, South Africa reached 575MW commissioned by end-2014, against just 10MW online a year earlier.

The South African Wind Energy Association (SAWEA) said there is an additional 625MW under construction, of which 505MW is scheduled for connection this year.

All capacity building comes from the 2011 first round (651MW) and 2012 second round (787MW) calls to tender for wind development, under the government's 2010 renewable energy independent power producers programme (REIPPP).
