CGN building 152MW Chinese offshore project with Siemens 4MW turbine

CHINA: China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN) has begun building a 152MW offshore project at Rudong, Jiangsu Province in East China, using 38 Siemens 4MW turbines.

The turbines will be supplied by Shanghai Electric as a part of a joint venture with Siemens to produce the 4MW turbine.

The first Siemens 4MW turbine to be manufactured in China was unveiled by Siemens and joint venture partner Shanghai Electric in November last year.

The offshore project meets the criteria that require offshore wind turbines be installed at areas that are at least 10 kilometres offshore and in water depth of at least 10 metres. It is scheduled for commissioning in December 2016.

The CGN Rudong project got the final approval from the State Oceanic Administration at the end of March. The whole wind farm covers a 258,000 square metre sea area, with its centre about 25 kilometres away from the coastline.

In all, 39 large monopile foundations will be planted in the sea. The extra one will be for fixing a 220KV marine power boost station, which will be connected to a purpose-built three-core submarine power cable.
