A2Sea to install Burbo Bank Extension

UK: Vessels provider A2Sea has been awarded the turbine installation contract by Dong Energy for the 258MW Burbo Bank Extension in the Irish Sea.

A2Sea's Sea Challenger was deployed at Dong's Westermost Rough

A2Sea will use its Sea Challenger vessel to install the 32 MHI-Vestas V164-8MW turbines. Dong's project will be the first commercial site to use the turbine.

Installation is due to take place in 2016, with commissioning expected in 2017. The site is located eight kilometers off the UK's west coast. It is next to the 90MW Burbo Bank project, where A2Sea installed the turbines in 2007.

A2Sea is majority owned by Dong and has been used on a number of their offshore projects including, most recently, the Westermost Rough project off the UK's east coast.

Dong made a final investment decision on the extension in December 2014. This month, Dong handed the group a contract to install the project's export and inter-array cables.
