Senvion's new models will feature what it calls a Next Electrical System (NES). The manufacturer said the new turbine meets grid operators' needs for a stable supply of electricity.
A NES turbine will include a "fully rated" converter and an asynchronous doubly fed induction generator, commonly found in most wind turbines. Previous Senvion models included only a partial converter.
The company believes this model will help reduce the cost of energy while maintaining a high yield of energy.
The NES turbine will also comply with German grid requirements for high voltage connections due to come in from January 2017. The new conditions will promote a constant stable supply of wind power in to the German grid.
This is the second recent update to its 3MW-platform. In September, at the WindEnergy Hamburg event, the company announced two new models in the series. The 3.XM platform currently comprises: 3.0M122, two 3.2M114 turbines, 3.4M104, and 3.4M114. The company was unavailable to give further details on the models that will benefit from the NES feature.
The German firm, currently owned by Indian manufacturer Suzlon, is in the process of being acquired by Canadian private equity firm Centerbridge Partners.
