Sheringham Shoal gearboxes replaced

UK: Statkraft has completed the replacement of two gearboxes at Sheringham Shoal, in the English North Sea.

Sheringham Shoal has been operating since 2012

The servicing was carried out using vessels and technicians supplied by UK-based offshore contractor Seajacks. Sheringham Shoal uses Siemens 3.6MW turbines.

According to Seajacks, it is the first time a major component has been exchanged on a Siemens offshore turbine without Siemens managing the project and providing the heavy lift team within the UK.

The project came online in 2012. It is co-owned by Statkraft and Statoil, although the Green Investment Bank bought a 20% stake in the project in November last year.
