The Facilitating Offshore Wind in India (Fowind) consortium, lead by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) is asking for sealed bids from manufacturers.
Fowind said the lidar will be installed at locations off the coast of Gujarat, west India, and Tamil Nadu, southeast India. An exact location is yet to be determined.
The chosen lidar provider will be asked to supply, install and commission the device and maintain it for two and a half years.
Interested parties have until 15 May to submit their proposals. Lidars use lasers and other devices to measure the environmental conditions of a proposed offshore wind farm to try and establish the eligibility of the area.
India's government appears to me making a big push towards offshore wind. Last week, GWEC general secretary Steve Sawyer told “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç TV the country could have an offshore wind project by 2019.
