DHI collates European metocean data

DENMARK: Danish firm DHI has created a database of north European metocean measurements to help speed up the development of offshore projects.

DHI was commissioned by Dong Energy to create the database as the Danish developer looks to reduce costs by speeding up project design.

By having a 35-year database of measurements, Dong can assess projects' metocean needs, such as structural design, much quicker, DHI said.

The data includes meteorological, oceanographic and wave data across north European seas.

DHI said the next five to ten years would see a large amount of offshore development in order to meet the European Union's renewables targets.
