The programme calls for 22GW of renewables by 2030, with solar photovoltaic to provide 13.5GW, solar-thermal 2GW, biomass 1GW, co-generation 400MW and geothermal 15MW.
Algeria has just 10MW of wind energy operating at a pilot project at Adrar, which came online last summer. It now wants to proceed to large-scale deployment.
Around 21 areas across the country with a strong potential for wind energy have been identified by the Electricity and Renewable Energy Company (SKTM), which is carrying out further studies.
The government will establish a renewable energy fund, financed by a levy of 1% on oil revenues, which will help pay for the guaranteed premium purchase price introduced last year.
It also foresees the development of a manufacturing sector, although no details have yet been released about how this is to be achieved.
