The energy produced was a little lower than the average output of 248.73GWh, but project partner EWE said production was still 1.5% above its forecast. In 2013, Alpha Ventus generated 224.6GWh.
EWE put the lower yield in 2014 down to the need to replace some components at the project, located 45 kilometres off the German coast in the North Sea.
A spokesperson for the project said the components that showed "an unusual amount of wear" were replaced. This included "several" rotor blades and drive train components.
The utility said January and December in 2014 proved to be highly productive months, producing over 30GWh in both months.
The Alpha Ventus project was Germany's first offshore development. It uses six Areva M5000s and six Repower (now Senvion) 5M turbines. It has been in operation since 2009 and has produced over 1.2 TWh to date.
