The radars will be able to give a high-resolution map of wind flow through the project.
It will be installed at the site in 2016 and gather data for 18-months. Dong said the program will be the first time radar has been used to measure offshore wind.
It is part of Dong's "Beamed Radar for Energy Assement and Site Conditions" research project.
Dong's technical manager of the research project, Nicolai Gayle Nygaard, said the radars differ from lidars and met masts as they can measure the wind flow across the whole project.
SmartWinds co-founder John Schroeder believes the system could contribute to the reduction of the cost of offshore wind energy.
Westermost Rough is currently under construction eight kilometers off England's northeast coast.
